Throughout the characters are named based on their descriptions.
There's Old Man, Young Man, Little Girl, Disillusioned Man, Mender of Temples and so on.
The only character who is named after their occupational description who has an actual
modern day surname is the Goldsmith. Old Man introduces his best friend, the Goldsmith,
in Chapter 9 when Old Man is teaching Young Man about friendship.
Was the name/occupation chosen randomly or does it have some esoterica behind it?
Esoterica abounds! Actually, it is a nod to Joel Goldsmith, founder of The Infinite Way.
When was a young man, it was Joel Goldsmith's book, "The Contemplative Life",
that first nudged my worldview towards a mystical path.
"Practicing the Presence" introduced me to meditation.
After using Joel Goldsmith's meditation method for only one month i had an amazing kensho/kundalini experience
that got me hooked on meditation for life. The next few years i totally immersed myself in Goldsmith's books.
They were my map back to the gates of the Good Land of ONE. It was during this time i wrote
YMOM.
Oddly, it was not until i was listening to Heather's brilliant narration of
YMOM,
especially Chapter 9, that i realized how much i was influenced by Joel Goldsmith's teachings.
Oftentimes i've ask myself if
YMOM was channeled. Now i ask, "Joel, was that you?"
Here's another serendipitous occurrence: Heather Smith and i have been doing co-meditations together
for a number of years. i knew that Heather had a website and taught classes about spirituality.
But it was only after we decided to publish
YMOM as an audiobook that i found out that Heather's
specialty is the teachings of Joel Goldsmith and The Infinite Way.
Only now are all these pieces falling into place. And so i have to ask again, "Joel, is that you?"
