Lectio Divina

Latin for 'Divine Reading'. (Wikipedia article) Lectio Divina is a Christian practice of:
  • reading scripture
  • asking that its meaning be revealed to you
  • listening for an answer
  • contemplating the answer
i, vic smyth, Read FAQ 'Why does vic smyth use all lowercase letters?' [X] start off every meditation session with a scriptural or inspirational reading. Although traditional Christians will use the Bible, i have, over the decades, in addition to the Bible, used such diverse works as:
  • The Baghavad Gita
  • The Tao Te Ching

  • The Gospel of Thomas
  • A Course in Miracles Workbook
  • The Emmanuel series
  • Books by Joel Goldsmith

i strongly encourage those of you who meditate to try this practice with your favorite scripture or inspirational book.

*The results obtained from these two sources were rather dubious from a spiritual perspective, but i did get a deep understanding of the logic behind naming a company "AAA Aardvark Plumbing" and became quite adept at programming my VCR.
