Latin for 'Divine Reading'. (
Wikipedia article)
Lectio Divina is a Christian practice of:
- reading scripture
- asking that its meaning be revealed to you
- listening for an answer
- contemplating the answer
start off every meditation session with a scriptural or inspirational reading.
Although traditional Christians will use the Bible, i have, over the decades, in addition to the Bible,
used such diverse works as:
- The Baghavad Gita
- The Tao Te Ching
- The Works of Chuang Tzu
- The Gospel of Thomas
- A Course in Miracles Workbook
- The Emmanuel series
- Books by Joel Goldsmith
- Winnie the Pooh
- my local Yellow Pages*
- a VCR manual*
i strongly encourage those of you who meditate to try this practice with your favorite
scripture or inspirational book.
*The results obtained from these two sources were rather dubious from a spiritual perspective,
but i did get a deep understanding of the logic behind naming a company "AAA Aardvark Plumbing"
and became quite adept at programming my VCR.
